The Ottawa Senators are expected to resume contract negotiations with Shane Pinto’s camp this week, GM Steve Staios confirmed Monday morning.
In an interview on TSN 1200 earlier today, Staios confirmed talks with Pinto’s agent, Lewis Gross, will occur later this week and reiterated how important a player Pinto is to the Senators.
“We’ve continued to have dialogue and we’re planning to talk this week to make progress on a completion,” Staios said. “We’ll speak again this week.”
Staios would not get into specifics of negotiations, declining to comment on whether he prefers to get Pinto inked to a deal with at least a five-year term on it.
“Shane is an important player for us. We’ve been there for him along the way and watched him develop within the group,” he said. “I do feel comfortable we’ll get something done.”
Pinto, who turns 24 on Wednesday, is in the final year of a two-year, $7.5 million contract. He has collected eight goals and six assists for 14 points in 16 games with the Senators so far this season and is believed to be looking for a deal worth around, or above, $7 million per year on a full-term contract.
