BLACKHAWKS ACQUIRE BURAKOVSKY FROM KRAKEN FOR VELENO

The Chicago Blackhawks have acquired forward Andre Burakovsky from the Seattle Kraken in exchange for forward Joe Veleno.

Burakovsky, 30, registered 10 goals and 27 assists for 37 points in 79 regular-season games with Seattle this past season.

The native of Klagenfurt, Austria has appeared in 696 career regular-season NHL games, earning 387 career points (153G, 234A) over 11 seasons with Washington, Colorado and Seattle.

“Andre was a valuable player for our organization during the three years he was here, and we wish him and his family the best of luck in Chicago,” Kraken GM Jason Botterill said. “In return, we’ve acquired a young player with experience while also increasing our salary cap flexibility moving forward.”

Burakovsky was originally selected by Washington in the first round (23rd overall) of the 2013 NHL Draft.

Veleno, 25, posted eight goals and nine assists for 17 points in 74 regular-season games split between the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago this season.

In 306 career NHL regular-season games with Detroit and Chicago, Veleno has registered 38 goals and 43 assists o 81 points, along with 98 penalty minutes.

He was drafted 30th overall by the Red Wings in the 2018 NHL Draft.
