TRADE WATCH LIST: TOP 30

aS OF Feb. 25, 2019 | 4:00pm et

With the NHL trade deadline approaching (Feb. 25, 2019 at 3pm ET), TFP has outlined 30 of the top names rumoured to be available through various newspapers, radio and television reports, cyberspace and our own league-wide sources. Last season, 15 players listed were traded, with 22 moved the season before.

As part of our Trade Deadline Coverage, this page will be updated regularly and TFP's panel of experts will outline each player's value. Some players may climb or fall off the list, while others may be added. Teams reportedly showing interest will also be added and adjusted as more information becomes available.

1. Mark Stone, RW / Ottawa Senators

Traded to Vegas

It didn’t appear likely Stone would legitimately make this list earlier in the season, but it’s becoming evident he won’t reach a contract extension with the Senators. The Senators have tried hard to re-sign him, but they’ve also picked up trade talks and there is significant interest in him. Ottawa is reportedly looking for four assets, including a first-round pick and an A-level prospect.

2. Kevin Hayes, C/RW - New York Rangers

TRADED TO WINNIPEG

The Rangers’ plan is long-term, and right now it appears as if trading Hayes makes the most sense for a club looking to bring in additional assets and draft picks. It will be interesting to see if teams will be granted permission to work out an extension before a deal is finalized, and that would affect the overall price, too.

3. Wayne Simmonds, RW/LW - Philadelphia Flyers

Traded to Nashville

The Flyers and Simmonds will continue to discuss the possibility of an extension, but until one is reached, there’s a good chance the Flyers receive an offer they can’t pass up for this power forward. Trade talks have picked up.

AGE: 27 CAP HIT: $6M

4. Artemi Panarin, LW - Columbus Blue Jackets

Not Traded

Panarin’s name his position clear, he’s waiting for the summer (to test the UFA market). The Blue Jackets have a big decision to make, but with the team’s recent additions of Matt Duchene and Ryan Dzingel, GM Jarmo Kekalainen won’t trade him unless an offer completely blows him out of the water.

Teams believed to have interest:

AGE: 28 CAP HIT: $4.583M

5. Marcus Johansson, LW / New Jersey Devils

Traded to Boston

The Devils are actively shopping Johansson, who is set to become a UFA this summer. He has a five-team no-trade list and comes with a $4.583 million cap hit, and there are teams interested in adding him for a stretch run.

TEAMS BELIEVED TO HAVE INTEREST:

AGE: 29 CAP HIT: $5.187M

6. Mike Hoffman, RW/LW / Florida Panthers

The Florida Panthers are taking calls on winger Mike Hoffman and appear willing to move him by the trade deadline. He has one-year left on his contract after this season and owns a 10-team no-trade list.

AGE: 25 CAP HIT: $5.75M

7. Dougie Hamilton/Brett Pesce/Justin Faulk, D /
Carolina Hurricanes

Not TRaded

The Hurricanes are willing to move one of Hamilton, Pesce or Faulk if they can get a top-six forward. Carolina’s looking at a hockey-move here, and while this type of deal may wait for the summer, some teams may be willing to dance before the deadline.

Teams believed to have interest:

AGE: 31 CAP HIT: $3M

8. Derick Brassard, C / Florida Panthers

Traded to Colorado

The Panthers acquired Brassard from the Penguins in a major move, but will be flipping him elsewhere before the Feb. 25 trade deadline. He will be moved, it's just a matter of when and where.

TEAMS BELIEVED TO HAVE INTEREST:

AGE: 34 CAP HIT: $5.272M

AGE: 34

9. Jeff Carter, C/RW - Los Angeles Kings

Not Traded

As TFP recently reported, the Kings are active in talks. Carter doesn’t own any no-trade protection in his contract, but he’ll have some say in where he ends up, if dealt. He has three-years left on his contract after this season, and there is interest from multiple clubs.

Teams believed to have interest:

AGE: 25 CAP HIT: $4.3M

AGE: 25
CAP HIT: $4.3M

10. Cody Ceci, D / Ottawa Senators

Not Traded

The Senators are fielding calls for Ceci, who is set to become a restricted free agent July 1. The price is believed to be very high, and with the Sens in rebuild-mode, if the right package comes their way, GM Pierre Dorion would pull the trigger.

TEAMS BELIEVED TO HAVE INTEREST:

11. Adam McQuaid, D / New York Rangers

Traded to Columbus

McQuaid has generated a lot of interest from teams looking to strengthen their third-pair on the blueline. He’ll become an unrestricted free agent this summer and his price tag isn’t believed to be overly high.

Teams believed to have interest:

12. Adam Henrique, C/RW / Anaheim Ducks

Not Traded

Teams are calling about Henrique, giving Anaheim’s tailspin, and if the Ducks are looking to retool, moving him could bring back a solid return. He signed a contract extension last July and is locked up for five more seasons.

TEAMS BELIEVED TO HAVE INTEREST:

13. Micheal Ferland, LW / Carolina Hurricanes

Not Traded

If the Hurricanes can't get Ferland inked to an extension, they're going to try to move him by the deadline. Carolina's already reportedly had calls about him and those discussions could escalate as the weeks progress.

TEAMS BELIEVED TO HAVE INTEREST:

14. Eric Staal, C / Minnesota Wild

Not Traded

The Minnesota Wild have received a lot of interest in Staal, who is in the final-year of his contract. He owns a 10-team no-trade list, but if the right offer comes along, it will likely be from a top-tier contender

TEAMS BELIEVED TO HAVE INTEREST:

15. Sergei Bobrovsky, G / Columbus Blue Jackets

Not Traded

The Blue Jackets are doing their due diligence when it comes to the trade market on Bobrovsky, though it seems the only major player right now is Florida, who could go after him as a UFA this summer. Will other teams step up? Will Columbus keep him for a playoff run? We shall see.

TEAMS BELIEVED TO HAVE INTEREST:

16. Jimmy Howard, G / Detroit Red Wings

Not Traded

Howard’s in the final year of his contract and can become an unrestricted free agent in July. The Red Wings want a first-round draft pick as part of a package for him and you have to wonder if a team is willing to pay that price.

Teams believed to have interest:

17. Tyler Toffoli, LW / Los Angeles Kings

Not Traded

The Kings may be more likely to hold on to Toffoli than move him before the deadline, but multiple teams are interested and if the right offer presented itself, L.A. would seriously consider it. Toffoli has one-year left on his contract.

TEAMS BELIEVED TO HAVE INTEREST:

18. Chris Kreider, LW / New York Rangers

Not Traded

The Rangers have taken calls on Kreider for some time, but that doesn't mean they'll move him. Given the state of the team, his return could be as impactful as his presence in the lineup. A team will have to blow the Rangers out of the water with a great offer to pry him out of The Big Apple.

TEAMS BELIEVED TO HAVE INTEREST:

19. Alexander Wennberg, C / Columbus Blue Jackets

Not Traded

The additions of Matt Duchene and Ryan Dzingel in Columbus have made Wennberg’s spot in the lineup almost non-existent - at least for the time being. The Blue Jackets are exploring the market on him, but his $4.9 million cap hit might pose an issue for some teams.

TEAMS BELIEVED TO HAVE INTEREST:

20. Trevor Lewis, C/ RW / Los Angeles Kings

Not Traded

A number of teams have expressed interest in Lewis, and they’d love to add a veteran of his caliber to their bottom-six. His $2 million salary cap hit makes him more attractive, and he has one-year left on his contract.

TEAMS BELIEVED TO HAVE INTEREST:

21. Jason Zucker, LW/RW / Minnesota Wild

Not Traded

As the Minnesota Wild go through a retool, Zucker’s name has popped up as a possible trade candidate. He has four-years left on his contract after this season and comes with a $5 million salary cap hit. There are no guarantees the Wild move him.

TEAMS BELIEVED TO HAVE INTEREST:

TBD

22. Brandon Saad, LW / Chicago Blackhawks

Not Traded

Chicago's looking to move Saad and his $6M salary cap hit. It's unclear if the Hawks will retain any salary in a deal, but they've made him available and will try to trade him by the deadline.

TEAMS BELIEVED TO HAVE INTEREST:

23. Alec Martinez, D / Los Angeles Kings

Not Traded

With two more years left on his contract after this season, Martinez adds a little extra long-term thinking to a team’s short-term needs. He’s available for the right price, it’s just a matter of what LA can swindle in return.

Teams believed to have interest:

24. Jesse Puljujarvi, RW / Edmonton Oilers

Not Traded

Puljujarvi won’t be given away, but his agent recently came out and suggested a change of scenery might be best for both the team and the player — that’s pretty telling. The Oilers still value him, and if he’s dealt, he could be packaged in a larger deal for an impact player.

TEAMS BELIEVED TO HAVE INTEREST:

TBD

25. Ilya Kovalchuk, LW / Los Angeles Kings

Not Traded

As TFP first reported, Kovalchuk is willing to waive his no-movement clause for the right situation. There are teams interested, but the Kings will have to retain a portion of his remaining contract in order to facilitate a trade, if one’s agreed upon.

TEAMS BELIEVED TO HAVE INTEREST:

26. Eeli Tolvanen, RW / Nashville Predators

Not Traded

If the Predators make a big play for a top-end player/rental, Tolvanen’s believed to be one of the pieces that could be included in a trade. There is a lot of interest in him and he could help Nashville land a big fish by the deadline.

TEAMS BELIEVED TO HAVE INTEREST:

27. Jonathan Quick, G / Los Angeles Kings

Not Traded

Moving Quick may be more likely to happen in the off-season, but the Kings could get the ball rolling now if there's enough serious interest in one of the game's top playoff performers of this decade.

TEAMS BELIEVED TO HAVE INTEREST:

28. Mikkel Boedker, RW / Ottawa Senators

Not Traded

The Senators have had varying levels of interest in Boedker going back to January and it seems they may be inching closer to a trade. He has one-year left on his contract after this season and comes with a $4M salary cap hit.

TEAMS BELIEVED TO HAVE INTEREST:

29. Artem Anisimov, LW/C / Chicago Blackhawks

Not Traded

With two-years left on his contract after this season, moving Anisimov and his $4.55 million salary cap hit may not be a simple task, as he owns a 10-team trade list. If the Hawks can find the right match, they'd like to pull the trigger.

TEAMS BELIEVED TO HAVE INTEREST:

TBD

30. Ryan Callahan, RW / Tampa Bay Lightning

Not Traded

Callahan will become a casualty of Tampa’s salary cap restraints either by the trade deadline or this summer. If the Bolts make a big splash before the 3pm ET deadline on Feb. 25th, Callahan may be moved out to clear cap space and some teams are willing to take on his deal if the Lightning add an incentive to do so.

TEAMS BELIEVED TO HAVE INTEREST:

OFF THE BOARD

2. Matt Duchene, C / Ottawa Senators
TRADED TO COLUMBUS

The Senators have tried to get Duchene locked-up to a long-term contract extension, but it’s almost certain that won’t be happening. Several teams are highly interested in him, and as TFP first reported, he’s willing to explore an extension with the acquiring team. The cost? A first-round pick, a top prospect/young NHLer and another asset.

TEAMS BELIEVED TO HAVE INTEREST:

5. Mats Zuccarello, RW / New York Rangers
TRADED TO DALLAS

Zuccarello has been waiting for a trade since the off-season, when he thought one was coming. He prefers to stay in New York, but the writing is on the wall and a move is now just a matter of time.

TEAMS BELIEVED TO HAVE INTEREST:

5. Gustav Nyquist, RW/LW / Detroit Red Wings
TRADED TO SAN JOSE

Nyquist has a full no-trade clause and is in the final year of his contract. Many believe he'll provide the Wings with a list of teams he'd accept a move to, and the return for the 29-year-old should be solid considering the numbers he's been putting up this season for Detroit.

TEAMS BELIEVED TO HAVE INTEREST:

6. Ryan Dzingel, LW / Ottawa Senators
TRADED TO COLUMBUS

Dzingel’s offensive outburst this season has caught the attention of many, and his $1.8 million salary cap hit makes him that more more attraction to contending teams in need of secondary scoring.

TEAMS BELIEVED TO HAVE INTEREST:

11. Cam Talbot, G / Edmonton Oilers
TRADED TO PHILADELPHIA

This is Talbot's last season in Edmonton. The Oilers tried trading him last season and in the summer, but held on to him, hoping he'd rebound for them. He's fallen out of favour there and if a deal can be figured out, he'll make the move.

TEAMS BELIEVED TO HAVE INTEREST:

12. Jake Muzzin, D / Los Angeles Kings
TRADED TO TORONTO

It seems as if the Kings are willing to move one of Muzzin or Martinez, and the best offer will get a deal done. But with both players signed beyond this season, it's not set in stone that a move happens by the deadline.

TEAMS BELIEVED TO HAVE INTEREST:

15. Brandon Montour, D / Anaheim Ducks
TRADED TO BUFFALO

The Ducks have entertained calls on Montour for some time, going back to last off-season. There are several teams interested in acquiring him, but Anaheim wants a quality return for him.

TEAMS BELIEVED TO HAVE INTEREST:

17. Nick Jensen, D / Detroit Red Wings
TRADED TO WASHINGTON

Jensen is a strong third-pair defenceman for a contending team and there appears to be plenty of interest. He is set to become a UFA this July, and the price tag is not believed to be overly high. If Detroit gets the right offer, they’ll pull the trigger.

TEAMS BELIEVED TO HAVE INTEREST:

28. Brian Boyle, C/LW / New Jersey Devils
TRADED TO NASHVILLE

Boyle’s in the final year of his contract and can become a UFA this July. His cap hit isn’t heavy ($2.55M) and a team in need of quality depth to its fourth line will come calling.

TEAMS BELIEVED TO HAVE INTEREST:

29. Michael Del Zotto, D / Vancouver Canucks
TRADED TO ANAHEIM

Del Zotto appears to have fallen out of favour in Vancouver, and a trade seems preferable. He's in the final year of his deal, which comes with a $3 million salary cap hit.
