The Minnesota Wild are expected to pick up contract negotiations with superstar forward Kirill Kaprizov and his camp this week, as the club hopes to sign him to an eight-year extension.
Kaprizov, 28, is in the final year of a five-year, $45 million contract and could see his next contract eclipse $15 million per season.
In last week’s edition of the “Worst Seats in the House” podcast with Michael Russo and Anthony LaPanta, Russo reported the conversation is expected to begin this month once he returns to the city and before training camp gets going.
“I believe they’ve offered him a ton of money, even more than I thought,” Russo said. “On an eight-year deal, they’re willing to pay him even in the $16 (million) range. We’ll see.”
In 41 games with the Wild last season, Kaprizov registered 25 goals and 31 assists for 56 points.
Prior to last season, he scored 40 or more goals in three straight seasons.
