It is no secret the Ottawa Senators would like to improve from last season’s success and jump back into the playoffs this season, and it appears GM Steve Staios is looking for additional assets to help his club’s chances.
While a move is not considered imminent, word across the NHL suggests the Senators are interested in making a big move this season to acquire another star-level talent.
It is unclear if Staios has pinpointed any options or if he has started making calls after undergoing an exploratory search in the off-season, but various reports have highlighted the Senators as a team that is expected to go big game hunting this season.
With just over $3.61 million in current salary cap space, according to PuckPedia, the Senators will have some flexibility to add to their roster this season.
The Senators added centre Dylan Cozens at the trade deadline last season and may be looking to add another forward to the mix this year, likely on the wing.
Meanwhile, the team continues to have an open line of communication with the agent for centre Shane Pinto, who is eligible to become a restricted free agent next summer.
Pinto, who has a $3.75 million cap hit, could see his salary double on his next deal.
