The Winnipeg Jets and star sniper Kyle Connor are putting the finishing touches on a long-term contract extension, according to multiple reports.
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman first reported the two sides “have made progress” and noted they are trying to finalize the deal before the team’s season opener on Thursday.
Connor, 28, is in the final year of a seven-year, $50 million contract and is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent next summer.
TFP reported on Sunday that the two sides were “working towards a new deal that may pay Connor in between $12 million and $13 million per season.”
According TFP’s David Pagnotta, the Jets and Connor are finalizing an eight-year extension worth $96 million.
Some early chatter this gets done today at 8x$12M ($96M total), structured nicely for Connor. https://t.co/u7ti3UvdDW

The Jets have just over $64.44 million committed to their 2026-27 salary cap, which is projected to hit $104 million, though belief across the NHL is that figure will climb to around $108 million, giving the Jets plenty of cap space to play with, even with Connor signing a deal with an AAV north of $12 million.
With the objective to get this extension done and signed ahead of Thursday’s opener, an announcement could be made as early as Wednesday.
In 82 games with the Jets last season, Connor registered 41 goals and a career-high 56 assists for a career-high 97 points.
