The Philadelphia Flyers have made a number of moves lately that have bulked up their forward corps, and the club is believed to be comfortable with what they have up front. The backend, however, is an area Flyers GM Danny Briere is believed to be interested in strengthening.
With some financial flexibility to play with, Briere and the Flyers would like to bolster their blueline at some point this season.
It is unclear whom they may be targeting and unknown if they have reached out to any clubs since the season started, but the Flyers are expected to keep tabs on the defensive market and would like to add someone in his mid-20s that fits the rest of the core of the team.
The Flyers could use one of their forwards to package for help on defence, given how deep they appear to be up front, and may look to include draft picks or prospects in a deal.
Ironically, as the team tries to add a top-four defenceman to the roster, the Flyers are also believed to willing to move young blueliner Emil Andrae, whom the club drafted in the second-round in 2020.
The San Jose Sharks are believed to be willing to take trade calls on blueliners Mario Ferraro, 27, and Timothy Liljegren, 26, but both players are in the final year of their contracts and are currently eligible to become unrestricted free agents next summer.
