The Boston Bruins collected their first win in seven games on Saturday, beating the Colorado Avalanche 3-1 at home and pushing their record to 4-6-0 in their first 10 games of the 2025-26 NHL regular-season.
As the club tries to get back on track, GM Don Sweeney is reportedly open to exploring potential roster options moving forward and appears to be willing to take calls on some of his players, including Pavel Zacha and Casey Mittelstadt.
During the week, TFP’s David Pagnotta was the first to report on SiriusXM NHL Network Radio that the names of both players were starting to circulate across the NHL, upon which the Canucks were connected to Zacha as Vancouver GM Patrik Allvin has started to explore options.
On Thursday during the Sekeres & Price Show in Vancouver, he noted the Canucks’ interest.
“Boston is interesting. Casey Mittelstadt is out there out there again. Pavel Zacha was a player that they explored and took calls on last season,” Pagnotta said. “From the Canucks perspective, those are two players that would appeal.
“There are players they are exploring on and I would imagine that Boston would be a club that Allvin and (President Jim) Rutherford are going to at least poke on to see what the price tag would be for either of those players.”
During the “Saturday Headlines” segment on Hockey Night in Canada this evening, Elliotte Friedman echoed Vancouver’s interest in Zacha, who owns an eight-team no-trade list and has another year left on his contract after this season at a $4.75 million AAV.
“I think it’s been going on for quite some time. I think it’s all the way going back to the summer – the Canucks and Bruins have been on off about this,” Friedman said. “Zacha is not in the last year of his deal, he has another year. Teams are looking for centres. Boston doesn’t have to do anything here it doesn’t want to do, but this is kind of been a dance, the Canucks and some other teams seeing if they can prize Zacha out of there.”
Friedman also noted that the Canucks are not believed to be one of team eight teams on Zacha’s no-trade list.
