The Vancouver Canucks are disappointed with the first quarter of their season and are now engaged in the trade make in an attempt to make their team younger.

As first reported Monday night by Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the Canucks are “willing to listen to offers on ‘veteran players,’” but defencemen Quinn Hughes and Filip Hronek are not up for grabs.

Friedman noted the Canucks “do not desire to tear it right down to the studs,” but are open to moving players on expiring contracts or have one or two years remaining.

This morning, during Tuesday’s episode of Morning Cuppa Coffee with Jonny Lazarus and Colby Cohen, TFP’s David Pagnotta reported Canucks forwards Conor Garland and Kiefer Sherwood are among those up for grabs.

“People that I’ve talked to in the last 12 hours or so, on the agent side, on other teams, are all wondering what is next for this group,” Pagnotta said. “If they are going to make solid change, then who are the guys.”

Pagnotta noted that “you want to sell high on” Sherwood if he is moved, while Garland’s no-movement clause does not kick in until July 1, 2026, upon which his six-year, $36 million contract kicks in.

Sherwood, Evander Kane, Teddy Blueger, David Kampf and Derek Forbort are among the players in Vancouver who are eligible to become unrestricted free agents next summer, and most are expected to be discussed with other teams in the weeks and months ahead.

The Canucks have not started contract negotiations with Sherwood’s camp, adding fuel that he is a likely candidate to be moved by the trade deadline.

One player whose name has swirled around the rumour mill the last season or so is defenceman Tyler Myers, but he owns a full no-movement clause that doesn’t shift to a 12-team no-trade list until next season, the last of his contract.

Meanwhile, the Canucks remain in the market for a second-line centre and have been trying to find one in his mid-20s with control. Such a move may be slated for the off-season, given the direction the team currently finds itself in.
