Alexandre Texier and the St. Louis Blues are parting ways and if the winger clears unconditional waivers on Sunday, as he is expected to do, he may already have his next NHL spot lined up.

Texier, 26, is in the final year of a two-year, $4.2 million contract, and has only played in eight games with the Blues this season.

If he clears, he will become an unrestricted free agent and will be free to sign with any club – and while there is interest from several teams, it appears one is already the frontrunner to sign him.

“We’ll see. We have to wait until this happens at two o'clock Eastern tomorrow,” Elliotte Friedman reported on ‘Saturday Headlines’ on Hockey Night in Canada.

“The word around the League right now, if you ask people about where this is going to end up, the favourite is absolutely the Montreal Canadiens.”

Texier has played in 240 career NHL games with the Columbus Blue Jackets and Blues, and has recorded 40 goals and 51 assists for 91 points, along with 94 penalty minutes.
