The Chicago Blackhawks are looking to trade goaltender Laurent Brossoit, who hasn’t played for the team since signing a two-year contract with them on July 1, 2024.

Brossoit, 32, underwent meniscus surgery almost two months after joining the Blackhawks, causing him to miss the entire 2024-25 season. Then, in September, he underwent hip surgery and has been out of action since.

The Blackhawks have since gone with Spencer Knight as their starting netminder this season, with Arvid Soderblom in the backup role, leaving no room for this season Brossoit, who is set to play in the AHL next week on a conditioning stint.

During “Saturday Headlines” on Hockey Night in Canada the evening, Elliotte Friedman reported the Blackhawks have given other teams permission to speak with Brossoit’s camp about trading for him.

“The Blackhawks don’t really have room for him,” Friedman said. “He’s carrying a $3.3 million cap hit, not everybody can take that, so there might be some work that needs to be done here, but he will be watched very closely, and the Blackhawks have allowed people to talk to him.”

Chicago has two salary retention slots still available and could retain a portion of Brossoit’s contract if the right deal presents itself.

In 23 games with the Winnipeg Jets in 2023-24, Brossoit posted a 15-5-2 record with a 2.00 goals-against-average, a .927 save percentage and three shutouts.
