As trade speculation continues to surround Calgary Flames defenceman Rasmus Andersson given the team’s struggles this season, the 29-year-old is doing his best to focus on his game and making Sweden’s Olympic roster.

Teams have once again expressed interest in Andersson this season and Flames GM Craig Conroy continues to listen, but so far, a trade is not considered close.

Numerous reports have linked the Dallas Stars and Vegas Golden Knights are two teams Andersson would be open to signing an extension with, and while both clubs remain interested, it’s unclear if other teams are still in the hunt. The Toronto Maple Leafs reportedly inquired again earlier this season, but a deal between the two clubs seems unlikely.

Andersson is in the final year of a six-year, $27.3 million contract and owns a six-team no-trade list as part of his deal. The Flames are open to re-signing him, but an extension is reportedly unlikely, as well.

“What the so-called insiders say about me I can’t control. The stuff they put out there, sometimes you just kind of laugh at. I honestly haven’t even thought about my contract since the season started,” Andersson told Sportsnet on Tuesday. “I just try to play, enjoy it, and whatever happens, happens, and that’s kind of the mentality I’ve had towards it.”

The Los Angeles Kings tried to acquire Andersson in the summer and sign him to an extension, but the trade fell apart after the blueliner declined to sign a new deal with L.A.

As the trade winds blow, additional speculation will surely ramp up later in the season or until whenever Andersson is dealt.

But for him, his focus is not on what may or may not happen.

“That’s probably my number one priority right now, is to play well and take a spot on (the Swedish Olympic) team,” he said, “and we’ll see what happens to my future here.”
