Veteran centre Jonathan Toews is itching to lace up the skates again and return to NHL action next season.

Toews, 37, last played in the NHL after the 2022-23 season and revealed, at the time, that he would be stepping away from the game primarily due to the effects of long COVID and chronic immune response syndrome.

The three-time Stanley Cup champion has been skating in Arizona and, according to TSN’s Pierre LeBrun, spoke with his agent Pat Brisson on Wednesday to “inform him he’s 100 percent committed to coming back to the NHL next season.”

While a return to the Chicago Blackhawks – where he won those Cups and played in 1,067 career regular-season games with – is not expected, multiple teams are going to explore the possibility of signing him this off-season.

The Winnipeg Jets are among the potential suitors for Toews, though several clubs are believed to be interested in inquiring about his status and desires to play next season, including the Colorado Avalanche and Toronto Maple Leafs.

Toews accumulated 372 goals and 511 assists for 883 points over his career, which was also highlighted by winning the Conn Smythe Trophy as Playoffs MVP in 2010.
