The Dallas Stars have signed forward Matt Duchene to a four-year, $18 million contract extension, which runs through the 2028-29 season.
Duchene’s deal includes a full no-movement clause in the first two-years of his new deal, and a five team trade-list in the final two years of his contract.
He was ranked No. 7 on TFP’s initial Top UFAs List.
“We are thrilled to have Matt back with our organization,” said Stars GM Jim Nill. “As our team’s leading scorer last season, he helped to solidify our forward group while also providing invaluable leadership off the ice and in the community. The fit with Matt and our team has been seamless from the start, and we’re looking forward to continuing to pursue our shared goal of bringing a championship to Dallas.”
Duchene, 34, finished the regular season with 30 goals and 52 assists for 82 points in 82 games with the Stars, leading the team in scoring and setting a career high in assists.
In 1,138 career NHL regular-season games, Duchene has accumulated 371 goals and 520 assists for 891 career points with the Stars, Colorado Avalanche (2009-10 to 2017-18), Ottawa Senators (2017-18 to 2018-19), Columbus Blue Jackets (2018-19) and Nashville Predators (2019-20 to 2022-23).
A native of Haliburton, Ontario, Duchene was originally selected third overall by the Avalanche in the 2009 NHL Draft.
