The Vancouver Canucks are among the teams looking to add a second-line centre to their roster and appear to be targeting Marco Rossi from the Minnesota Wild.
According to Patrick Johnston of the Vancouver Province, the Canucks are “hot after” Rossi and have offered Minnesota the 15th overall pick in this month’s NHL Draft, along with another unnamed player.
Rossi, 23, is in the final year of his three-year, entry-level contract and is eligible to become a restricted free agent July 1.
On May 29, TFP’s David Pagnotta reported that Rossi is looking for a deal similar to the seven-year, $49 million contract Matt Boldy inked with the Wild, and that has heightened Minnesota’s willingness to trade him.
Rossi currently ranks No.5 on the TFP Summer Trade Watch List.
The Canucks expressed interest in Rossi during the season, along with the likes of the Calgary Flames, Philadelphia Flyers and Nashville Predators, so it is no surprise that they have re-engaged now.
It is unknown whom the player is that the Canucks offered the Wild, but The Athletic’s Michael Russo reported the Wild wants an NHL player as part of a package for Rossi, if dealt.
In 82 games with the Wild this season, Rossi registered 24 goals and 36 assists for 60 points.
