The New Jersey Devils have been speaking with teams about potentially trading star defenceman Dougie Hamilton, whose full no-movement clause now is a modified NMC with a 10-team trade list.

Hamilton, 32, has three years remaining on his contract and was paid a $10.55 million bonus on July 1.

During the season finale episode of “32 Thoughts,” Elliotte Friedman reported Hamilton is in play and Devils GM Tom Fitzgerald has been exploring the marketplace.

“The next biggest question for the Devils is Dougie Hamilton. I’m curious to see what happens,” Friedman said.

“I don’t have a great feel for it, in terms of percentage chances that anything occurs with him, but I know that his name was kind of out there a little bit and I had heard that they had been talking to a couple of teams. We’ll see where that goes.”

Hamilton is due $1 million in actual salary this season and next season, upon which he is due a $7.4 million bonus on July 1, 2026, and $5.25 million in salary in the final year of his contract, which does not include a bonus payment.

It is unclear which teams the Devils have spoken with, or which 10 teams are on Hamilton’s trade list.

In 64 games with the Devils this past season, Hamilton registered nine goals and 31 assists for 40 points.
