EICHEL, GOLDEN KNIGHTS ENGAGED IN CONTRACT TALKS

The Vegas Golden Knights continue contract discussions with star centre Jack Eichel on a long-term extension, though talks are still believed to be in the early stages.

Eichel, 28, is in the final year of an eight-year, $80 million contract and will command a raise on his next deal. How much, though, remains to be seen.

After acquiring Mitch Marner in a sign-and-trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs on June 30, the Knights agreed to move ahead with Marner on an eight-year, $96 million deal, giving him an average annual value of $12 million. Eichel is expected to exceed that AAV figure on his next contract.

According to sources on both sides, there is nothing new to report in terms of an imminent deal, though the two parties maintain an open line of communication.

Eichel attended the Battle For Vegas charity softball game over the weekend but did not discuss his contractual status.

In 77 games with the Golden Knights this past season, Eichel registered 28 goals and a career-high 66 assists for 94 points, the first season in which he has tallied 90 or more points in his career.
