Several teams are interested in signing unrestricted free agent winger Nikolaj Ehlers, but the veteran forward plans to take his time before deciding which team he wants to sign with.
As TFP reported this morning, multiple teams have interest in Ehlers, including the Anaheim Ducks and Carolina Hurricanes.
Ehlers is expected to command between $8 million and $9 million per season on a long-term contract with a Stanley Cup contenders, but could generate an average annual value worth more than $9 million with a non-contender, like the San Jose Sharks or Ducks.
Ehlers, 29, registered 24 goals and 39 assists for 63 points in 69 games with the Winnipeg Jets this past season. He has spent his entire NHL career with the Jets after being selected ninth-overall by Winnipeg in the 2014 NHL Draft.
It is unclear how much time Ehlers will take to decide his future, but the Hurricanes have been reported as a team with significant interest in him.
In addition to Carolina, San Jose and Anaheim, the Toronto Maple Leafs, Columbus Blue Jackets, Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks and New York Islanders are among the teams also linked to Ehlers.
