WINGS FIRE LALONDE, NAME MCLELLAN HEAD COACH

The Detroit Red Wings have fired Head Coach Derek Lalonde and Associate Coach Bob Boughner.

Todd McLellan has signed a multi-year contract with the Red Wings to become the club’s new Head Coach, while the team has also hired Trent Yawner as an Assistant Coach.

McLellan, 57, becomes the 29th Head Coach in Red Wings history. He last coached the Los Angeles Kings after four and a half seasons with the organization.

In 1,144 career regular-season games as an NHL Head Coach with the San Jose Sharks, Edmonton Oilers and Kings, McLellan has compiled a 598-412-134 record, making the playoff in nine seasons.

Lalonde was named coach of the Wings on June 30, 20222 after spending 2018-2022 as an Assistant Coach with the Tampa Bay Lightning, winning the Stanley Cup with the team in 2020 and 2021.
