As the New York Islanders begin their search for a new General Manager, the future of Head Coach Patrick Roy has come into question.
Roy, who reportedly did not see eye-to-eye with former Isles GM Lou Lamoriello, has one more year remaining on his contract.
The fate of Roy and his coaching staff will be determined by whomever is hired as the club’s next GM and a decision won’t be made until then.
According to the New York Post, it is unclear if Roy will be among the candidates for the GM role, though the paper suggests it “wouldn’t be surprising if he were given an opportunity to state his case.”
If Roy were to become the team’s next GM, he would presumably look to hire a new bench boss.
Roy was named Head Coach of the New York Islanders on Jan. 20, 2024. He coached the Colorado Avalanche for three seasons (2013-14 through 2015-16) and won the Jack Adams Awards as Coach of the Year in 2014.
