The Winnipeg Jets have locked up captain Blake Wheeler to a five-year, $41.25 million contract extension that has an $8.25 million annual salary cap hit.

Wheeler, who turned 32 on Aug. 31, also received a no-movement clause, which comes with a modified no-trade clause.

Coming off his 10th NHL season, Wheeler registered 23 goals and 68 assists for 91 points in 81 games with the Jets in 2017-18.

The All-Star was named captain of the Jets on his 30th birthday (Aug. 31, 2016), and has collected 222 goals and 383 assists for 605 career points in 778 career NHL regular-season games, to date, with the Boston Bruins and Atlanta Thrashers/Jets.

Wheeler was originally drafted fifth-overall by the Phoenix Coyotes in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
