Brett Pesce, defenceman

The Carolina Hurricanes are on the hunt for a top-line winger and it’s no secret they’ve expressed significant interest in Toronto Maple Leafs winger William Nylander.

Nylander, 22, remains a restricted free agent, as he’s been unable to come to terms on a new deal with the Maple Leafs.

As TFP reported earlier this month, the Hurricanes have reached out to Nylander’s camp, inquiring as to what a potential contract might look like, should they be successful in acquiring him from Toronto.

It appears, given their surplus of quality defencemen, the Hurricanes are comfortable in parting with blueliner Brett Pesce as part of a deal for Nylander.

While Pesce has been speculated to be part of trade discussions between the two clubs, TFP has learned he has indeed been included in talks.

The Hurricanes and Maple Leafs are believed to have discussed additional players outside of Pesce and Nylander, though it’s unclear which players have been brought up.

Meanwhile, Carolina is also in the market for a goaltender, as GM Don Waddell is exploring his options between the pipes.
