It appears the Tampa Bay Lightning and Los Angeles Kings may be engaged in trade discussions, as the two clubs have been following each other around lately.

Lightning Assistant GM Pat Verbeek took in Sunday’s Kings game with one of his pro scouts, who attended the Kings’ AHL affiliate game earlier in the day, and also attended Tuesday night’s Kings game in Vancouver against the Canucks.

The Kings have countered by deploying one of their pro scouts for Tampa 3-1 loss on Tuesday at home against the Anaheim Ducks, and again on Thursday for the Bolts’ game against the Buffalo Sabres.

It’s unclear whom the Lightning and Kings are discussing, or if they’re involved in heated trade talks, but Los Angeles is believed to be open to taking calls on just about every one of its players, including defencemen Alec Martinez, Derek Forbort and Jake Muzzin.

The Bolts have recently been without defenceman Anton Stralman, who has been out of action with an upper-body injury.

With limited salary cap space, any trade the Bolts complete with the Kings is likely to involve players with similar salaries.
