Brandon Montour, defenceman

The Anaheim Ducks are believed to be fielding inquiries about young defenceman Brandon Montour, TFP has learned.

Montour, 24, has one-year left on his contract after this season and comes with a $3.3875 salary cap hit.

It’s unclear what Ducks GM Bob Murray is looking for in exchange for Montour, or if he’s simply taking calls and gauging the marketplace, but Anaheim has struggled offensively this season and adding a top-six scorer could be on Murray’s to-do list.

Montour has been the subject of trade speculation in the past, going back to last season, and a number of teams, including the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins, are believed to have interest in him.

Heading into Tuesday’s action, the Ducks ranked 30th in the NHL in goals-for per game, averaging 2.19 goals per game, behind only the Los Angeles Kings, who average 2.17 goals.

Murray has been in the market for a top-six scorer since the off-season and could be focused on adding one if the right opportunity presented itself.

Montour has picked up two goals and 10 assists for 12 points in 25 games with the Ducks so far this season.
