Alexander Barabanov is moving on from the San Jose Sharks and will be testing the waters as an unrestricted free agent this summer.

As TFP’s David Pagnotta reported on Wednesday, Barabanov will not be signing a new contract with the Sharks and plans on exploring his options as a free agent in July.

Barabanov, who turns 30 on June 17, is in the final year of a two-year, $5 million contract. He was already dealt prior to the trade deadline, but the Sharks were not able to make the move work due to financial restrictions.

The Sharks generated plenty of interest in Barabanov during the season, as teams like the Colorado Avalanche, Florida Panthers and Carolina Hurricanes made inquiries, but ultimately GM Mike Grier was unable to pull the trigger.

Barabanov’s agent, Dan Milstein, confirmed Pagnotta’s report to TFP that his client will be moving on from the Sharks.

After putting up 15 goals and 47 assists in 2022-23, Barabanov picked up 13 points in 46 games this season while riddled with injuries.
