Oscar Klefbom, defenceman

The Edmonton Oilers entertained trade talks involving defenceman Oscar Klefbom this season, as TFP was the first to report on Feb. 9, and discussions are expected to continue this off-season.

Already, speculation has amplified over a potential move involving the 24-year-old blueliner, with TSN’s Ryan Rishaug suggesting this week Klefbom and the 10th overall pick might be a worthwhile package for Rasmus Ristolainen in a deal from the Buffalo Sabres.

Several Boston reporters have also linked Klefbom to the Bruins, suggesting Torey Krug could be swapped in a deal for Klefbom.

Klefbom is entering the third-year of a seven-year, $29.169 million contract and owns an annual salary cap hit of $4.167 million.

The Bruins had expressed interest in Klefbom this season, but they weren’t the only team, as several reportedly inquired, including the Tampa Bay Lightning, Detroit Red Wings and Florida Panthers.

In 66 games with the Oilers this season, Klefbom registered five goals and 16 assists for 21 points.
