The Carolina Hurricanes are hoping to add another scoring forward to their lineup ahead of next Friday’s 3pm NHL trade deadline.

Hurricanes GM Don Waddell is exploring the possibility of acquiring another forward over the next week and has been evaluating his options.

The Hurricanes are believed to have expressed varying levels of interest in such players as Pavel Buchnevich of the St. Louis Blues, Adam Henrique and Frank Vatrano of the Anaheim Ducks, Tyler Toffoli of the New Jersey Devils, Anthony Duclair of the San Jose Sharks, and Vladimir Tarasenko of the Ottawa Senators, among others.

Buchnevich and Vatrano are signed beyond this season – each player has one more year left on their respective contracts – while the other four forwards mentioned are playing on expiring contracts.

The Hurricanes tried to sign Tarasenko in the off-season as a free agent but came up short to the Senators.

Waddell has between $5 million and $6 million in available salary cap space to play with by the deadline if he wants to add a body up front.
