The Toronto Maple Leafs are believed to be close to signing forward Nic Petan to a multi-year contract extension.

Petan, 23, was acquired from the Winnipeg Jets at the 2019 trade deadline in exchange for forward Par Lindholm.

According to Sportsnet’s Irfaan Gaffar, the Leafs could soon announce a two-year extension with Petan.

In 16 games with the Leafs and Jets this season, Petan has registered one goal and two assists.

The native of Delta, B.C. has played in 111 career NHL regular-season games, to date, with the Leafs and Jets, and has accumulated six goals and 18 assists for 24 points. He was originally drafted by the Jets in the second-round, 43rd overall, of the 2013 NHL Draft.
