Peter DeBoer, head coach

As the San Jose Sharks battle for first-place in the Pacific Division, management is hoping to get some spring cleaning taken care of before the playoffs get underway next month, it appears.

The Sharks are believed to be in contract negotiations with head coach Peter DeBoer and are an extension could be on the horizon.

During Saturday night’s “Headlines” segment on Hockey Night in Canada, Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos reported the Sharks and DeBoer are working towards a “multi-year agreement” and that a deal could be “imminent.”

DeBoer, 50, is in his fourth-season with the Sharks and is without a contract beyond this season, though that no longer appears to be a concern.

In his first three-seasons with the Sharks, DeBoer compiled a record of 137-86-23, leading the team to the Stanley Cup Final in 2015-16.

In 71 games so far this season, the Sharks are 43-20-8 and are one point behind the Calgary Flames for first in the Pacific.
