Ottawa Senators General Manager Steve Staios has been very active lately trying to improve his roster for the 2024-25 campaign.
In addition to trying to acquire Linus Ullmark and work out a contract extension with the star goalie, who is willing to sign off on a trade from Boston to Ottawa, as TFP’s David Pagnotta first reported this past week, Staios is shopping some of his defencemen, including Jakob Chychrun.
As reported by Postmedia’s Bruce Garrioch, the Senators have also been dangling blueliners Erik Brannstrom and Jacob Bernard-Docker in an attempt to trade at least one of them, and the team plans to buyout the contract of Travis Hamonic once the buyout period opens 48 hours after the conclusion of the Stanley Cup Final.
If the Senators cannot find a trade partner for Brannstrom, a pending restricted free agent, the team may not extend him a qualifying offer, which would make him an unrestricted free agent.
Staios has also made forward Mathieu Joseph available for trade. The 27-year-old has two more years left on his contract and comes with a $2.95 million salary cap hit.
According to Garrioch, the Senators are also engaged in trade talks with the Seattle Kraken about forward Brandon Tanev, who has a 10-team no-trade list and comes with a $3.5 million cap hit.
