Mike Smith, goaltender

It appears the Edmonton Oilers have found a veteran goaltender to share the load in net next season, as veteran netminder Mike Smith is reportedly set on joining the team.

According to TSN Sr. Hockey Reporter Frank Seravalli, an official announcement is expected Monday and will see Smith earn a base salary of around $2 million with the potential to earn an additional $2 million through performance-laden bonuses on a one-year contract.

Smith, 37, posted a 23-16-2 record in 42 games with the Calgary Flames this past season, registering a 2.72 goals-against-average, a .898 save percentage and two shutouts.

Over his 13-year career with the Dallas Stars, Tampa Bay Lightning, Arizona Coyotes and Flames, Smith has recorded a 243-236-68 record with a 2.70 GAA, a .912 save percentage and 38 shutouts.
