The Philadelphia Flyers have acquired the rights to centre Kevin Hayes from the Winnipeg Jets in exchange for a 2019 fifth-round draft pick.

Hayes, whom the Jets acquired on trade deadline day from the New York Rangers for right wing Brendan Lemieux, a 2019 first-round pick and a 2022 conditional fourth-round pick, is set to become an unrestricted free agent July 1.

The Flyers have already had an introductory call with Hayes and his agent, Robert Murray, and the two sides are expected to speak again in the near future and begin contract negotiations.

Hayes, 27, earned $5.175 million this season and will be looking for a raise on a multi-year deal, in the six-year to seven-year range.

In 71 games with the Rangers and Jets this season, Hayes registered 19 goals and 36 assists for 55 points.
