John Chayka, GM

The Arizona Coyotes are believed to be amongst the more active teams scouring the trade scene, according to multiple league sources.

It had already been widely reported by numerous outlets that Coyotes GM John Chayka was heavily combing through the market, and the Coyotes have been linked to Pittsburgh Penguins sniper Phil Kessel and Toronto Maple Leafs veteran Patrick Marleau, among others.

The Coyotes currently have just over $8.6 million in available salary cap space, but can create additional space of $5.275 million by placing Marian Hossa on LTIR.

If talks progress with the Penguins regarding Kessel, Pittsburgh may ask for winger Alex Galchenyuk as part of a deal. The Penguins had serious interest in Galchenyuk before the Coyotes acquired him from Montreal last June, though it’s unclear if the Coyotes would consider moving him.

Arizona is believed to be targeting a top-six forward and there are plenty of options.

In addition to Kessel and Marleau, Minnesota Wild winger Jason Zucker, Calgary Flames forward James Neal, Florida Panthers winger Mike Hoffman and Los Angeles Kings centre Jeff Carter are among those available – and they are all listed on the TFP Off-Season Trade Watch list.
