The Philadelphia Flyers are expected to announce the signing of unrestricted free agent left wing James van Riemsdyk to a five-year contract, TFP can confirm.

TSN’s Frank Seravalli first reported the Flyers and ‘JVR’ had agreed to a deal, while ESPN’s John Buccigross reported the deal was worth $7 million per season.

van Riemsdyk, 29, returns to Philadelphia after spending the last six seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

In 81 games with the Leafs this past season, ‘JVR’ registered a career-high 36 goals, with 18 assists, for 54 points.

Drafted second-overall by the Flyers in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, van Riemsdyk has collected 201 goals and 192 assists for 393 points in 609 career NHL regular-season games with the Flyers and Leafs.
