The New York Islanders announced today that General Manager Garth Snow and Head Coach Doug Weight have been relieved of their duties.

Effective immediately, Islanders President of Hockey Operations Lou Lamoriello will take over the responsibilities of GM.

The Islanders will also begin the search for a new Head Coach, and could be in a position to add one in the coming weeks, leading up to the NHL Draft later this month.

“The New York Islanders would like to thank both Garth and Doug for their dedication to the franchise,” Lamoriello said. “Both started their tenures with the franchise as players and grew as tremendous leaders to the positions they held.”

Snow, 48, was named GM of the Islanders on July 18, 2006 after his playing career game to an end.

As per the Islanders’ official press release, both Snow and Weight will remain with the organization, though their roles have not been defined.
