The Arizona Coyotes are reportedly close to finalizing a contract extension with defenceman Oliver Ekman-Larsson.

Citing “multiple sources,” Craig Morgan of ArizonaSports.com claims the two sides are “nearing an agreement” that is believed to be an eight-year contract worth around $8.25 million per season.

Ekman-Larsson, 26, has one-year left on his contract and cannot officially sign an extension until July 1.

Other teams have been informed that Ekman-Larsson is not available for trade, which initially fueled speculation that an extension was close.

Ekman-Larsson will make $7 million in salary next season, though his annual salary cap hit is $5.5 million.
