The Toronto Maple Leafs have traded centre Nazem Kadri, defenceman Calle Rosen and a 2020 third-round draft pick to the Colorado Avalanche for defenceman Tyson Barrie, right wing Alex Kerfoot and a 2020 sixth-round draft pick.

As part of the deal, the Avalanche are retaining 50 percent of Barrie’s remaining contract.

Kadri, 28, has spent his entire career with Toronto after being selected seventh overall by the team in 2009. He appeared in 73 regular-season games with the Maple Leafs this past season and registered 16 goals and 28 assists for 44 points.

In 561 career NHL regular-season games, Kadri has accumulated 161 goals and 196 assists for 357 points.

“With the arrival and emergence of Samuel Girard and Cale Makar, as well as the recent draft pick of Bowen Byram, we felt it was time to move in this direction with Tyson’s contract expiring next summer,” said Avalanche GM Joe Sakic.

“Nazem is a proven goal scorer and a fierce competitor who plays in all situations. He is under contract for the next three seasons and will immediately fit right in as our second-line center and improve our scoring depth. Calle is a young defenseman with upside who has played in the AHL and has also seen some NHL time over the last two years.”

Kadri was No.6 on the TFP Off-Season Trade Watch List, while Barrie was higher, ranked at No.2.

Rosen, 25, has split the last two seasons in the Toronto organization, helping the Marlies win the 2018 Calder Cup as AHL champions. He recorded 46 points (7 goals, 39 assists) in 54 games during the 2018-19 season, finishing tied for seventh among AHL defensemen in scoring.

Barrie, 27, skated in 78 games for the Avalanche during the 2018-19 season and registered 14 goals and 45 assists for 59 points.

In 484 career NHL regular season games, all with Colorado, Barrie has registered 75 goals and 232 assists for 307 points.

Barrie was originally drafted by Colorado in the third round (64th overall) of the 2009 NHL Draft.

Kerfoot, 24, appeared in 78 games for the Avalanche in 2018-19 and recorded 15 goals and 27 assists for 42 points.

In 157 career NHL regular season games, the Vancouver native has registered 34 goals and 51 assists for 85 points.

Kerfoot was originally selected by New Jersey in the fifth round (150th overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft. He signed a two-year, entry-level contract with Colorado on August 24, 2017.
