Kevin Cheveldayoff, GM

The Winnipeg Jets appear to be approaching the Feb. 25 trade deadline with a willingness to add to their roster, perhaps at both ends of the rink.

Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff has roughly $11.93 million in current salary cap space to play with, according to CapFriendly, giving him plenty of room to add to his lineup if he so chooses.

It seems as if it’s Cheveladoyoff’s preference to bolster his roster, as the Jets are believed to be in the market for a top-six forward and a top-four left-handed defenceman.

The Jets are believed to have some interest in such pending unrestricted free agents as Philadelphia Flyers winger Wayne Simmonds, New York Rangers forward Kevin Hayes and St. Louis Blues defenceman Jay Bouwmeester.

Veteran blueliner Jake Muzzin and right wing Tyler Toffoli of the Los Angeles Kings are also believed to be two players the Jets have explored, and both are signed beyond this season.

With less than seven weeks until the deadline, it’s unclear what direction the Jets go in. The club clearly has options to explore, it will come down to the type of trade Cheveldayoff is willing to complete should he add to his roster.
