Mike Hoffman, right wing

The Florida Panthers have been quieted “working the phones,” according to the Ottawa Sun, and Panthers GM Dale Tallon may have his sights set on one particular player.

According to the Sun, the Panthers, along with the St. Louis Blues, are among the teams interested in Ottawa Senators winger Mike Hoffman.

Hoffman has been the subject of multiple trade rumours so far this season and the belief is the Senators are willing to trade him for the right price.

The Panthers currently sit seven points out of a playoff spot, and their focus may be more long-term, which makes sense in terms of having interest in Hoffman, who has two-years left on his contract beyond this season.

Florida is among the lower teams in the NHL in goal-for, and Hoffman could certain assist them in the goal-scoring column, having scored 27, 29 and 26 goals in each of the previous three seasons, respectively.

Hoffman does, however, own a 10-team no-trade list, and it’s unclear if the Panthers are one of those clubs.
