EBERLE, WENNBERG GENERATING INTEREST

Alexander Wennberg, forward

The Seattle Kraken are six points back of a wildcard spot in the Western Conference and if they continue to slip down the standings GM Ron Francis could sell off some of his pending free agents ahead of the March 8 trade deadline.

Kraken forwards Jordan Eberle and Alexander Wennberg have already attracted plenty of interest from playoff contenders. Both veterans are in the final year of their respective contracts and can become unrestricted free agents July 1.

Eberle owns a 16-team no-trade list, while Wennberg has a 10-team no-trade list as part of his contract.

The Edmonton Oilers, Toronto Maple Leafs and New York Islanders have already been linked to having interest in Eberle, while the Boston Bruins and Colorado Avalanche are believed to be eyeing Wennberg.

Both Eberle and Wennberg are ranked among the players on the TFP Trade Watch List.

Given the Kraken’s proximity to a wildcard position, any move may be more likely to occur closer to deadline day, however some teams, like the Calgary Flames, have already moved out some of their assets. If the right offers are presented, Francis could pounce well in advance of the deadline.

Eberle, 33, has registered nine goals and 19 assists for 28 points in 47 games with the Kraken so far this season.

Wennberg, 29, has tallied eight goals and 13 assists for 21 points in 51 games with Seattle, to date.
