The Buffalo Sabres have acquired defenceman Brandon Montour from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for defenceman Brendan Guhle and a 2019 first-round draft pick.

The first-round draft pick will come from either San Jose or St. Louis (both owned by Buffalo) based on the final order of selection in the 2019 NHL Draft.

“Brendan Guhle is an excellent skater who is ready to take the next step in his career,” said Ducks GM Bob Murray. “Adding Guhle and a first-round pick is an important step as we retool our team moving forward. We also thank Brandon Montour for his efforts and wish him the best of luck in Buffalo.”

In 62 games with the Ducks so far this season, Montour has registered five goals and 20 assists for 25 points, and 40 penalty minutes.

Guhle, 21, has collected five assists with 12 penalty minutes in 23 career NHL games with Buffalo.
