Gustav Nyquist, right wing

The Detroit Red Wings are entertaining trade calls for pending unrestricted free agent winger Gustav Nyquist, and the 29-year-old is waiting to see how things unfold.

The NHL trade deadline hits at 3pm ET on Monday and teams have been inquiring about Nyquist’s services – as well as the services of Wings defenceman Nick Jensen, goalie Jimmy Howard, forward Luke Glendening, and others.

Nyquist, who has picked up 15 goals and 33 assists for 48 points in 60 games so far this season, has a full no-trade clause and was recently asked to provide a list of teams he’d accept a move to. While has won’t comment publicly on the trade list, he has heard the speculation and is waiting to see how things play out.

“It’s a little bit of a new situation for me, obviously, going into the last year of my contract,” Nyquist told local reporters, as quoted by the Detroit News. “It’s different. But we still have a week left. Let’s see what happens.

“I’m sure there will be more questions to talk about (in the days ahead). Just take it one day a time.”

It’s believed Red Wings GM Ken Holland is looking for a first-round draft pick as part of a deal for Nyquist, who indicated his agent and Holland will figure things out when and if the time comes.

“Little bit, just talking,” said Nyquist, who sits 11th on TFP’s Top 30 Trade Watch List. “Instead of saying too much, or too little, I’m just going to go with no comment.

“It has to work for either side. That’s about as much as I will say.”

The Dallas Stars, New York Islanders and Pittsburgh Penguins are among the teams believed to have interest in Nyquist.
