MATTHEWS, LEAFS AGREE TO 5-YEAR EXTENSION

The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed superstar centre Auston Matthews to a five-year contract extension worth $11.634 million per season.

Matthews, 21, was in the final-year of his three-year, entry-level contract.

His new deal includes a no-movement clause in the final-year of his new contract.

In 38 games with the Leafs so far this season, Matthews has generated 23 goals and 23 assists for 46 points.

The 2016 first-overall selection has played in 182 career NHL regular-season games, to date, and has accumulated 97 goals and 81 assists for 178 points.
