Wayne Simmonds, forward

The Philadelphia Flyers have been trying to get power forward Wayne Simmonds signed to a contract extension, but it appears the team is more likely to trade him by the 3pm ET trade deadline on Feb. 25.

During Tuesday’s edition of “Insider Trading” on TSN, TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun reported “more likely than not, they will still trade Wayne Simmonds if and when someone pays up with the right offer.”

LeBrun added there is “a lot of interest” in Simmonds, who is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent July 1.

Simmonds, who sits No.5 on TFP’s Top 30 Trade Watch List, owns a 12-team no-trade list and will have some say in where he ends up, once dealt.

The Calgary Flames, Tampa Bay Lightning, Vegas Golden Knights, Boston Bruins and Nashville Predators are among the teams believed to have interest in Simmonds.

In 53 games with the Flyers so far this season, Simmonds has registered 16 goals and eight assists for 24 points.
