DEVILS PLAYERS BRACE FOR TRADE DEADLINE
Marcus Johansson, forward
The New Jersey Devils scratched forward Marcus Johansson and defenceman Ben Lovejoy from Thursday night’s game in anticipation of moving them by Monday’s 3pm ET trade deadline.
Johansson, who sits at No.20 on TFP’s Top 30 Trade Watch List, has a five-team no-trade list, but playoff contending teams have expressed interest in acquiring him.
He and Lovejoy are scheduled to become unrestricted free agents July 1.
The rest of the Devils’ players are trying to prepare, as well, and appreciate the situation both Johansson and Lovejoy find themselves in.
“It’s never easy,” Devils goalie Cory Schneider told the New York Post of the trade deadline. “You get to know these guys well and their families and, again, they’re not gone right just yet so you have to wait and see what happens but just like we did (Thursday) you have to be ready to play and move forward.”
The Vancouver Canucks and Dallas Stars are among the teams believed to be interested in Johansson, while several teams are looking for defensive depth, including the Tampa Bay Lightning, Toronto Maple Leafs and Vegas Golden Knights.
