CAPITALS ACQUIRE JENSEN FROM DETROIT, SIGN HIM TO 4-YEAR EXTENSION

The Washington Capitals have acquired defenceman Nick Jensen and a 2019 fifth-round draft pick from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for defenceman Madison Bowey and a 2020 second-round draft pick.

The Capitals have signed Jensen to a four-year, $10 million contract extension.

Jensen, 28, registered two goals and 13 assists for 15 points in 60 games with the Red Wings this season.

In 190 career NHL regular-season games over three seasons with Detroit, Jensen accumulated six goals and 37 assists for 43 points.

He was originally drafted by the Red Wings in the fifth-round, 150th overall, of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

Bowey, 23, tallied one goal and five assists for six points and 38 penalty minutes in 33 games with Washington this season.

In 84 career NHL regular-season games with Washington, he has picked up one goal, 17 assists and 62 penalty minutes.

He was drafted by Washington in the second-round, 53rd overall, of the 2013 NHL Draft.

Jensen was No.17 on TFP’s Top 30 Trade Watch List.
