The Montreal Canadiens have acquired centre Nate Thompson and a 2019 fifth-round draft pick from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for a 2019 fourth-round draft pick.

Thompson, 34, has collected four goals and two assists for six points, and 17 penalty minutes, in 53 games with the Kings this season.

In 672 career NHL regular-season games with the Boston Bruins, New York Islanders, Tampa Bay Lightning, Anaheim Ducks, Ottawa Senators and Kings, Thompson has accumulated 57 goals and 77 assists for 134 points, along with 336 penalty minutes, to date.

He was originally drafted by the Bruins in the sixth-round (183rd overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
