CANADIENS ACQUIRE FOLIN, WEISE FROM FLYERS

Christian Folin, defenceman

 

The Montreal Canadiens have acquired defenseman Christian Folin and forward Dale Weise from the Philadelphia Flyers in return for defenseman David Schlemko and centre Byron Froese.

Folin, 27, has participated in 26 games with Philadelphia this season, recording two assists, 16 penalty minutes, 60 hits and a +5 rating.

In 209 career NHL regular season games with Minnesota, Los Angeles and Philadelphia, Folin has recorded seven goals and 31 assists for 38 points and 96 penalty minutes.

Weise, 30, has played 42 games this season with Philadelphia, registering five goals and six assists for 11 points. He’s been assigned to Laval of the AHL.

In 481 career NHL regular season games for the New York Rangers, Vancouver, Montreal, Chicago and Philadelphia, he has recorded 54 goals and 66 assists for 120 points.

Acquired in a trade from Vegas on June 22, 2017, Schlemko recorded two assists in 18 games with the Canadiens in 2018-19.

He has appeared in 415 regular season games, recording 18 goals and 76 assists for 94 points.

Signed as a free agent on July 1, 2017, Froese was leading the Laval Rocket with 14 goals. Over parts of three seasons in the NHL, he has appeared in 110 regular season games for Toronto and Montreal, recording a total of five goals and 11 assists for 16 points.
