SHARKS WILLING TO LISTEN ON FERRARO

The San Jose Sharks are expected to make multiple moves this season, as playoff contenders look to strengthen their rosters over the next three months leading up to the March 8 trade deadline.

With several players up for grabs, including players on expiring contracts like Anthony Duclair, Mike Hoffman, Kevin Labanc and Alexander Barabanov, but others on the club are generating interest.

Over the weekend, it had been reported on Hockey Night in Canada that the Sharks were willing to take calls on defenceman Mario Ferraro, whom TFP’s David Pagnotta mentioned earlier last week to be a trade target for some teams on SiriusXM NHL Network Radio.

Ferraro, 25, is in the second year of a four-year, $13 million contract and comes with an affordable and attractive $3.25 million salary cap hit.

The Carolina Hurricanes, Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames and Dallas Stars are among the teams believed to have interest in Ferraro, who is also on the radar of several other clubs.

Sharks GM Mike Grier is not believed to be overly interested in moving Ferraro for future assets and draft picks. Any move involving Ferraro may look like a talent-for-talent swap or in a larger package that brings back young, NHL-talent to San Jose.
