The Vancouver Canucks are hoping to get veteran defenceman Luke Schenn locked up to a one-year contract extension.

Over the last 24-48 hours, it has been reported the Canucks want to get Schenn inked to a new deal, and in his latest “31 Thoughts” column, Elliotte Friedman reported it to be a one-year deal.

“We’ve been real happy with him and he’s done everything we’ve asked,” Canucks GM Jim Benning told the Vancouver Province on Sunday.

Schenn, 29, has picked up two assists in 15 games with the Canucks this season, and his contributions on the ice have improved the club’s defensive corps and generate praise from star rookie Quinn Hughes during his NHL debut last week.
